The Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary is situated on an age-old elephant route between the forest to the north and the Shimba Hills to the south. Mwaluganje is a community owned conservation initiative which was launched in the early 90’s to reduce human / elephant conflict. The community now earns more from tourism than they did from farming and the elephants have the freedom to roam without fear of reprisal from angry farmers. The cycad-filled sanctuary is home to other wildlife such as buffalo, leopard, waterbuck, warthog and a host of colorful birds. Hikes may be taken to the glittering 'Kitsanze' falls or to one of two sacred forests or ‘kayas’. We can arrange day trips, with overnights at Mwaluganje Elephant Camp.

Tsavo East and West combine to form Kenya’s largest and arguably wildest National Park. Tsavo is famous for its elephants, and features three life-giving rivers - the winding, shady Tsavo River which runs under the imposing Ngulia massif; the wide, sandy Galana river which traverses the expansive openness of Tsavo East and drops noisily over the rugged Lugard's falls, and the cool and beautiful Voi River. The shady river banks and watering holes attract herds of elephant and buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, eland and impala, as well as lions, cheetah, leopard, the very rare Hirola antelope and many other animals and birds. Tsavo also features the volcanic Chyulu Hills; the crystal clear Mzima Springs; Lake Jipe - a birders paradise, and dramatic views of Kilimanjaro. The drive to Tsavo from Diani takes approximately 4 hours and there is an excellent selection of camps and lodges for the discerning traveler. We recommend a minimum of 2 nights and ideally three or even four in Tsavo.
